Overview

If you’re planning a trip to the Benelux countries, including Belgium, Netherlands (Holland) and Luxembourg, the best way to see it all is by train.

Benelux designates three neighbouring countries in Europe. The countries are Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The national railway company of Belgium is known as the NMBS/SNCB. In Luxembourg the national railway company is the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) and in the Netherlands the main railway company is the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS). Train tickets for trains operating in Benelux can be booked in advance. International trains connect the Benelux countries with neighbouring countries such as France and Germany. Book tickets to visit main cities of Benelux by train.

Cityscape

Travel by train to the Benelux countries of Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg. Cycle along Amsterdam’s canals, admire Brussels’ Grand Place square and enjoy views from Luxembourg City’s deep gorge, all with a Benelux Pass for unlimited travel on national networks.

Landscape

Chug past Flanders battlefields, Dutch windmills and Ardennes forest on Benelux train rides. Surfers love Belgium’s rugged beaches while Luxembourg’s Land of Red Rocks always mesmerises. Explore the lush fields and clear lakes of Netherland’s northern provinces, Overijssel and Drenthe.

Take Home

In the Netherlands, buy Dutch cheeses from Gouda and Edam and bright blue ceramics in Delft, hometown of artist Vermeer. Visit Belgium’s world-class chocolatiers or hit Antwerp’s designer shops. Luxembourg’s fruity Moselle valley wines are excellent souvenirs.

Eat & Drink

Dutch pancake houses are a national institution or try raw herring from Amsterdam’s stalls. In Belgium, sample Ardennes pate and Flemish waffles, washed down with prized Belgian beers. Luxembourg’s signature dish is f’rell am rèisleck (trout in white wine sauce).

New Perspective

See the varied landscape of Benelux by train. Take the main line from Brussels to Luxembourg through the Ardennes region, past secluded forests, open fields, tiny villages and even vineyards.

"The 1 hour trip via the train from Paris to Reims was good. However I wish it would have been good if there were some space to push your big baggage. It wouldn't go in the overhead compartments. Many who take the train are tourists and will have a 18'' inch suitcase. "

"We purchased round trip tickets on line. The price ended up Being very good compared to buying at station. Everything was on schedule. My suggestion is that you include in the printed ticket that the carriage #is digital in the window of the carriage and not painted on the outside as we thought. The on line site is simple to use and we received a prompt response in English to an emailed question. Thank you "

"Checking in was a mess with no proper signs and just queues of people arriving for the different departure times. There weren't any clear signage where to go and for which train departure. Border Control was the bottle neck. Once you clear all of that watch out for the departure times, tricky as there are many. Otherwise, train is comfortable and smooth. "
